This calendar is a collection of free things to do in San Francisco each day of the week.  Not included in the calendar are things that are free in various areas of the City that you should consider when planning your day.  For example,  check out the following:

PRESIDIGO – FREE SHUTTLE TO THE PRESIDIO FROM DOWNTOWN

The PresidiGo Shuttle system provides transportation to and around the Presidio seven days a we​ek. It is free and available to everyone with exclusion of commuting hours on weekdays. Check the PresidiGo schedule here: https://www.presidio.gov/transportation/presidigo

The system features three routes. PresidiGo Downtown offers service between the Transbay Terminal, Embarcadero BART, and Union Street/Van Ness Avenue and the Presidio. The Around the Park routes – Presidio Hills and Crissy Field – serve more than 40 destinations within the Presidio. Many stops are within a short walking distance from MUNI or Golden Gate Transit bus lines.

The Federal Building is a landmark in SOMA.  At 18-stories tall, it was designed to maximize airflow for natural cooling and ventilation as well as daylight.  The building was completed in 2007 and consists of several government agencies including, the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, USDA, SSA, U.S. Department of Transportation, and the office of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

It is open 8 a.m.– 6 p.m. Monday through Friday (except federal holidays).

WELLS FARGO HISTORY MUSEUM

Come visit Wells Fargo’s flagship museum located at corporate headquarters in the heart of the financial district. Located at the site where Wells Fargo first opened for business in 1852, the museum tells the story of how Wells Fargo provided banking and express services to pioneers in Gold Rush San Francisco.

CABLE CAR MUSEUM

The museum deck overlooks the huge engines and winding wheels that pull the cables. Downstairs is a viewing area of the large sheaves and cable line entering the building through the channel under the street.

MARITIME MUSEUM

Built in 1938 as a WPA economic recovery project, the museum building is a marvelous example of Art Deco style, and includes fanciful mural paintings and unique architectural motifs. The museum houses some of the Park’s thousands of nautical artifacts, models and exhibits.

MUSEE MACHANIQUE

One of the world’s largest (over 200) privately owned collection of coin-operated mechanical musical instruments and antique arcade machines in their original working condition. (You can play them!)

PRESIDIO VISITOR CENTER

We offer an unattended history exhibition in the lobby of the landmark Building One, rotating exhibits in the small gallery off the lobby, six statues from the world’s fair just outside the building with linked online content, and four new historical displays around Yerba Buena Island.
